On Stability of the Metric Projection Operator

Abstract. Let M be a closed linear subspace of a normed linear space X. For a given f ∈ X denote by PM f the set of best approximations to f from M . The operator PM is termed the metric projection onto M . In this paper we are interested in the stability of the metric projection PM relative to perturbations of the subspace M . We mainly consider the case where X = Lp, p ∈ [1,∞]. We consider a ...

Operator product expansion and analyticity

We discuss the current use of the operator-product expansion in QCD calculations. Treating the OPE as an expansion in inverse powers of an energy-squared variable (with possible exponential terms added), approximating the vacuum expectation value of the operator product by several terms and assuming a bound on the remainder along the euclidean region, we observe how the bound varies with increa...

Operator product expansion and confinement

Operator product expansion technique is analyzed in abelian and nonabelian field theoretical models with confinement. Special attention is paid to the regimes where nonzero virtuality of vacuum fields is felt by external currents. It is stressed that despite the physics of confinement is sometimes considered as being caused by " soft " fields, it can exhibit the pronounced " hard " effects in OPE.

Factorizing the Time Evolution Operator

There is a widespread belief in the quantum physical community, and in textbooks used to teach Quantum Mechanics, that it is a difficult task to apply the time evolution operator e itˆH / on an initial wave function. That is to say, because the hamiltonian operator generally is the sum of two operators, then it is a difficult task to apply the time evolution operator on an initial wave function...
